So I’m hyping myself up for my future Twingo purchase. I decided on it as my first car, it was either that or a Fiat Seicento or something similar, a 90's small car. I’m gonna pull the trigger this spring when I have some cash.
Now I’m fantasizing about what to do with it modification-wise, which route to go...
What would you guys do with a Twingo?
(Keeping it a daily driver, btw)
I’m thinking of cleaning it up, repainting all the plastic bits of trim and maybe getting the JDM YO plastic wheel arches, lowering it a tiny bit and getting a big fat cannon exhaust. It’s disgusting, I know, but I LOVE the way those things look, I can’t help myself.

You should try to keep it period correct, so wide watanabe-style rims (called sausage rims in Dutch Twingo circles), a tiny drop, and a DTM style exaust. Oh and it needs a rag top!
On the other hand, you could also go for an offroad look: give it some mud tires, a lift, skidplates, and some rallylights!

My mechanic friend suggests dropping it by cuttin an inch or two off the springs, do you think that’s a good idea?I know it’s not the proper way to do it, but I will be on a tight budget, and it can’t be THAT bad to do it? I mean the springs won’t collapse or something right?

Sounds pretty sketchy, but it can be done. Downside is that you l ose part of the progressiveness of the spring, as that tends to be at the top/bottom. Other downside is that the spring might not seat very well, as you cut that bit of too.

Also, I forgot to add, personally I would never do this, due to the sketchy-ness. however to each their own.

2 Questions.
1. When is the Twingo arriving
2. When is the modding happening (don’t forget to post to oppo)

First car? Wait, how old are you?

As he’s not an American, it could be everything. I was a whopping 27 when I bought my first car. Had never needed one before and even at 27 I didn’t need it, I just wanted one.

As much as I love the Twingo, I would go Seicento, I think. A lot of parts from the larger Punto bolt right to the Seicento so upgrades and mods are pretty easy, especially if you start with the Seicento Sporting!
There is a Youtube Channel called Miller Corner - younger guy - who has a Seicento he’s been slowly modifying to his tastes. He also checks out local car shows, etc. Pretty good channel if you wanted to check it out. He’s also very quick to respond, so I am sure he could help you with questions as well!

I’m in Canada and even though I love cars, I didn’t need to / have the money, myself, to get one until I was 22 (the earliest age you can get your license here is 16)!

Ah. Only asked because his name says “kid” in it lol. I’m only a year away from my license at 16 here in Florida.

That makes sense

Yep, same thing. I’m 24 now, finishing masters degree and living with my single mom. I don’t NEED a car as I live in the city center, and I sure as shit can’t afford to run it as a daily. Gas is way more expensive here, as are the registration, insurance and other costs of owning a car. The cost of getting a license is around 1200 US dollars here.
Most of Europe is like this, the culture is a bit different. When I was in the states this summer, I was able to rent out and run a P71 Crown vic, without even looking at the gas prices when at the gas station. 30 bucks gets you a full tank, and I can earn 30 bucks in 2-3 hours as a dishwasher.
Here, to fill a tank is about 800 Croatian Kuna, which I can earn in about a week’s worth of work. So the ratio is a bit skewed.

Awesome, I’ll check it out, thanks!

I may just wait it out then, until I can afford real springs or until I have more experience with working on it.

Will post excessively.

Welp, good luck.
